The Greatest Commandment
During devotions last night I was meditating on the Greatest Commandment (“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind……and love your neighbor as yourself.” Mat. 22:38&39), and God showed me this command in a way I had never thought of before: “Love God with everything in you, and love others with everything that He gives you.”
All love comes from God. He is the source of all pure, true love. Without God we would not know what love is. He is love. It cannot exist without him ( read John 3:16-21). We cannot love others on our own, we simply don’t know how. But if we love God with everything in us, and give him all we are, then he will give us everything we need to love others with the love he gives to us. First we love God, and then we love others through him. And if we love God with all that is in us, then everything else will just fall into place.
“Love God with everything in you, and love others with everything that He gives you.”
